Sample Letter to Senate Supporting the State Licensure Bill

(DATE)

Senator (John Doe)

State Capitol Building

Room (Office Address)

Jefferson City, MO 65101

Dear Senator( Doe):

I am writing to urge you to support legislation enacting SB 64 The Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Quality Assurance Act of 2005, a law that outlines basic educational and credentialing standards for health care personnel who perform medical imaging examinations and radiation therapy procedures.

Without such a law, patients in Missouri are vulnerable to unnecessary exposure to medical imaging procedures and radiation therapy administered by personnel with minimal education and training.

As one of your constituents, and a radiologic technologist, I believe that anyone administering medical imaging and radiation therapy procedures to patients should be required to demonstrate competence through education and credentials. The way to achieve this is by setting minimum standards for practice and licensing for those practicing in Missouri. By enacting a licensure law, Missouri’s patients would be

assured a safe, high quality medical imaging examination, with fewer repeat examinations and lower health care costs.

Uncredentialed, inadequately educated personnel should not be allowed to perform medical imaging and radiation therapy procedures. To protect Missouri’s patients, I urge you to support SB 64 The Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Quality Assurance Act of 2005.

Sincerely,

Jane Q. Technologist, R.T.(R)
