Dear fellow radiation therapist:
Over the past four years, the Seventh District has been unable to host the fall radiation therapy conference. There are many reasons why this seminar has not been held, but the blame is solely my own. Without this conference, many radiation therapists are left searching for ECE credits through avenues other than the MSRT. Clearly, the Seventh District needs to be a better educational resource for Missouri radiation therapists.
I have discussed the possibility of resuming the fall radiation therapy conference with other radiation therapists and members of the MSRT Board of Directors. We are concerned that the poor attendance by radiation therapists at the Saturday radiation therapy-specific lectures of the MSRT annual conference in April is an indication that all-day educational seminars held on Saturdays are not meeting the needs of our membership. The Seventh District needs to provide ECE credits in a different manner, and I am glad to announce that this year we will be implementing the following pilot program.
The Seventh District will sponsor ECE events at your institution by providing advertisement via the MSRT website, the Radiographer, and flyers; coordinating the approval of ECE credits through the ASRT; and securing speakers and topics. The host institution can choose the date and time of the meeting but must supply a meeting room for 10-15 people. Ideally, all meetings will be held at the end of the host institution’s workday before dinner. The meetings will cost MSRT members $1 per ECE and non-members $2 per ECE.
