STUDENT AT ROLLA TECHNICAL CENTER

AWARDED NATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP

Margaret A. Curry, a first-year student in the radiologic technology program at Rolla Technical Center, has been awarded a $4,000 academic scholarship by the American Society of Radiologic Technologists Education and Research Foundation.  Ms. Curry, a resident of Ft. Leonard Wood, will receive with the Royce Osborn Minority Student Scholarship at the ASRT Annual Conference in Birmingham, Ala., next month.

Five students from around the country were selected this year for the scholarship, which honors academically outstanding minority students attending an entry-level radiologic sciences program.            The scholarship is named after Royce Osborn, who served as the first African-American president of the ASRT in 1961.

Ms. Curry maintained a 4.0 grade-point average in her first semester at Rolla Technical Center.  She also received a perfect score in her clinical performance as a student radiographer.

“The enthusiasm Margaret demonstrates to others is contagious,” said Maggie Ogden, M.Ed., R.T.(R)(M), director of the radiologic technology program at Rolla Technical Center.  “She possesses the attributes necessary to become a proficient and successful radiographer.”

Ms. Curry said she chose to pursue a career in radiography because it allows her to care for people and make a difference in their lives.  Following graduation from her two-year certificate program, she hopes to work in a community hospital or radiology research laboratory.  She also hopes to earn a bachelor’s degree in radiology in the future.

The ASRT Education and Research Foundation will award scholarships worth more than $42,000 this year.  As the fund-raising arm of the ASRT, the Foundation works to strengthen the work force and workplace of radiologic technologists.  For more information about the ASRT Education and Research Foundation, visit the ASRT Web site at www.asrt.org.
